Gadzuric out

for season

UCLA's 6-10 freshman center Dan Gadzuric will miss at least the rest of the regular season after undergoing successful arthroscopic surgery on Thursday. Dr. Matthew Shapiro, team orthopedic surgeon, repaired a torn lateral meniscus in Gadzuric's left knee in a 90-minute procedure at the UCLA Medical Center. The Den Haag, Holland, native injured his knee during practice on Wednesday.

"Dan has been a very important member of our basketball team this season and his presence will be greatly missed," said head coach Steve Lavin.

"Our basketball family will support him during this difficult period in his life. As a team, we must also rise to the occasion of facing our remaining games without him."

The Bruins' fifth best scorer at 8.6 points per game and third in rebounding with 5.7 boards per contest, Gadzuric's inside presence will be sorely missed. He led the ballclub in field goal percentage at 54 percent and blocked shots with 1.3 per game.

In Gadzuric's last game, he played 29 minutes against Syracuse, the most playing time since 32 minutes vs. California back in January. He was five of nine from the floor and finished with 12 points and nine rebounds.

The healing process following surgery is estimated to take approximately six weeks, at which time Gadzuric will start rehabilitation. He will miss the remainder of the season after starting 17 out of the Bruins' 24 games.
