Madison’s suspended for infraction

Misuse of service bar leads to 10-day closure

Madison’s Neighborhood Bar and Grill will reopen Sept. 2 after a 10-day suspension for improper use of a service bar, according to the State Department of Alcoholic Beverage Control.

A secondary bar was improperly used to directly serve drinks to patrons when, under the terms of the license, it was only to be used as a service bar for employees to fill drinks and serve clients, according to Edward Mimiaga, district administrator for the department.

Clients were not to purchase drinks directly at the service bar; rather employees could use the service bar to fill drinks and take them to patrons.

The violation occurred in March but the “bureaucracy” prevented the case from being dealt with until now, Mimiaga said. Madison’s did not appeal the decision.

Madison’s has been placed on probation for one year. If it is found to improperly use the bar during that time, it will undergo another 10-day suspension.
