The historic Egyptian Theatre will screen the Halloween cult classic “The Evil Dead,” about five college students trapped in a mountain cabin fighting against an evil force, at 8:30 p.m. tonight. The film will be preceded by refreshments and a costume contest in the courtyard from 7:30 to 8 p.m. and a screening of “Fanalysis,” a documentary about horror movie fans. The 28-minute documentary was directed by “The Evil Dead” actor Bruce Campbell.

Following the screening there will be a discussion with “The Evil Dead” director Sam Raimi and producer Rob Tapert.

Get out your outrageous costumes for the annual West Hollywood Halloween Costume Carnaval, held tonight from 6 p.m. to midnight.

It will take place along the “new” Santa Monica Boulevard between Doheny Drive and La Cienega Boulevard in West Hollywood with more than 250,000 anticipated participants. It is known to be one of the largest Mardi Gras-like street celebrations.

Although the event is free, revelers will be asked to make monetary contributions to help the victims of the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks.

The night will feature live performances, booths along Santa Monica Boulevard and food vendors.

The evening is highlighted by the “crowning” of a celebrity honorary mayor to preside over the Halloween Costume Carnaval and Costume Contest.

For more information about the West Hollywood Halloween Costume Carnaval or the pre-celebration events, call the City of West Hollywood’s Halloween hotline at (323) 848-6503.

Hal Willner’s Halloween show presents a chilling Halloween tribute to Edgar Allen Poe at Royce tonight at 8 p.m.

Cult actors Bud Cort, Robert Wisdom and Chris Parnell, among others, will perform renditions of Poe’s work to spread the spirit and horror of Halloween.

Tickets can be bought at the UCLA Central Ticket Office, located at the James E. West Alumni Center open Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Get dressed up for a night at the movies.

Laemmle’s Monica 4 Plex Theater in Santa Monica is putting on “Yo Amo Los Zombies” with four older Halloween movies, including a monster musical, and a movie titled “The Barn of the Naked Dead.”

The person with the best costume attending the event will win a free Solomon snowboard.

A band called Olé will also play at the event and all ages are welcome for $10.

The Butthole Surfers will be at the Knitting Factory in Hollywood – strange costumes are guaranteed to be present.

Opening act Kid 606 will also be performing a spooky set as one of the most acclaimed contemporary electronica artists.

Tickets are available through Ticketmaster.

Alien Ant Farm and 311 are performing at the Universal Amphitheatre.

This is a great opportunity to get crazy and celebrate the holiday with some of modern rock’s most entertaining groups.

The show starts at 7:45 p.m. and tickets are on sale through Ticketmaster.

“All Hallows Eve” is a tale of adventure, romance and heroism, taken from the ancient Scottish tale of Tam Lin.

The story features Tam Lin, who was taken by the Fairy Queen to be sacrificed to the “Dark One” on All Hallows Eve, and the efforts of Jennet to save him.

The play runs through Nov. 18 at the Hudson Mainstage Theater on 6539 Santa Monica Blvd. in Hollywood. Tickets are $20, with a $5 discount for students, and another $5 discount for coming in costume, Halloween night only. Call (323) 856-4200 for tickets and information.
