Campus Events Commissoner: Wilson deserves reelection for his success in Campus Events
Ryan Wilson
Ryan Wilson deserves another term as campus events
commissioner.
As a council member this year, he co-sponsored the strongest proposal to bolster USAC programming: an entertainment referendum that would raise next year’s student fees to $12.50. Fees next year will decrease from $51 to $7.50, making the referendum’s increase relatively miniscule. The referendum, which was shelved in a political tantrum by Student Empowerment!, would have expanded the programming capabilities of Campus Events, Community Service, Cultural Affairs and Student Welfare Commissions.
Since his commission has not received a funding increase since 1987, Wilson has been working to strengthen Campus Events’ programs, particularly by bringing in better known bands and speakers. Because commissioners have a vote in USAC, there is more to their job than programming. Wilson claims to be coming into his own as a student politician. He is running as an independent, which is well-suited to a commissioner position.
Wilson has done a good job with a limited budget this year. His proactive approach to programming will serve him well if he is elected again.
