Speaks out

What do you think about the effort to recall Governor Gray Davis? Dan Norton

Fifth-year, microbiology

“I don’t really know what Davis has done (to help California). Common sense says if he is doing a really bad job, he needs to go out. Cutting the school budget helps the state budget, but there is always someone who suffers, like us (as UCLA students).” Andrew Hsu

First-year, undeclared

“(The recall) should definitely happen. Davis messed up education – he misallocated funding. That’s the main reason. California schools aren’t good to start with. Tampering with schools is going to have a domino effect. It will cause the degradation of everything else.” Jeannette Castro

Fourth-year, philosophy and women’s studies

“I think it’s unnecessary. I think the referendum thing in California gets out of control. I’m not happy with how Davis handled the budget cuts, but getting rid of the governor isn’t going to help.” Jeff Wilcox

Fourth-year, chemical engineering

“I’m not pro-Davis, but I’m not pro-working-around- the-system-to-get- him-out-of-office. If you start to revamp the system now, what does that mean later when we get someone else we don’t like? I can fault Davis, but I can fault a lot of other people too.”
