Former Justice receives Spirit Award:

Cruz Reynoso, the first member of the Latina/o community to serve on the Supreme Court and currently a law professor at UC Davis, received the 2004 César E. Chávez Spirit Award on Thursday night. In a ceremony held in Covel Commons, Reynoso was presented the award by Dolores Huerta, co-founder of the United Farm Workers Union and former UC regent. Huerta is a past Spirit Award recipient. The UCLA César E. Chávez Center for Interdisciplinary Instruction in Chicano Studies presents the award each year to distinguished individuals and leaders in the Chicana/o and Latina/o communities. Past recipients have included playwright Luis Valdez, actor and activist Martin Sheen and Grammy-winning musician Carlos Santana.
