Green mistakenly sees thin as bad
In Monday's Viewpoint, Leah Green argues that we all need to "remember that people come in all shapes and sizes" a noble goal. I wonder, however, if she remembered that as she was writing.
As a very thin woman, I resent being labeled as a "deathly-ill Kate Moss wannabe" by someone who supposedly preaches acceptance of women's bodies just as they are. Green states that she is angry.
I am angry as well; angry at the number of times I hear the word bitch as I walk by, angry that too many people, like Green, are eager to assume I starve myself in pursuit of a mainstream beauty ideal.
Welcome to Los Angeles, Miss Green. If you would bother to look objectively at the people of this diverse city, you would find that your mother is not the only woman with "a healthy body image" and some of those women just happen to be skinny.
My name is Lupe Garcia. I'm 5 feet, 7 inches tall and weigh 105 pounds. Deal with it.
