The UCLA women's volleyball team now has several honors to hang next to their 28 regular season wins and No. 3 national ranking.
Head coach Andy Banachowski, in his 28th year at UCLA, was named Pacific-10 Coach of the Year yesterday for the second year in a row and fourth time in his career. Banachowski guided the Bruins to a 28-3 regular season record while leading the Bruins into postseason play for the 25th consecutive year, a national record.
"It's an honor for the coaching staff and it's a tribute to our players," Banachowski said. "It shows that we are working hard and our players are listening to us."
Banachowski was not the only headliner for the Bruins, as senior outside hitter Annett Buckner was named Pac-10 Player of the Year after leading the conference in kills with 4.99 per game and placing seventh in the conference with a .310 average.
"She has been tremendous," Banachowski said. "Everybody knows we are going to set Annett a lot and she still has been very successful."
Buckner was joined on the All-Conference team by senior middle blocker Alyson Randick. Randick helped anchor the middle for the Bruins, ranking second in the conference in both hitting percentage (.376) and blocks (1.55 per game).
Outside hitter Kara Milling was selected to the All-Freshman team after an excellent all-around year. Milling finished third in kills and digs in her inaugural season.

Sophomore setter Kelly Flannigan was named to the 1994 GTE Academic All-American District VIII volleyball team. Flannigan, a physiological science major, boasts a 3.51 GPA while ranking second in the Pac-10 in assists average. Flannigan follows in the footsteps of fellow setter Julie Bremner, an Academic-All American in 1993.
