Bruin Democrats clarify stance
We are writing to express our deep concern about some of the comments made by Michael Schneider in his Viewpoint article "Political rights with a touch of common sense." Bruin Democrats strongly condemns any statement, even if intended as a joke, which trivializes violence against women.
The Democratic Party has a long-standing commitment to women's issues and abhors any statement which denigrates women or otherwise would promote an atmosphere of violence. There is no place for misogynist comments like these in the Democratic Party or in Bruin Democrats.
Schneider has not been involved with Bruin Democrats since he was asked to resign his position earlier this year. We would like to publicly apologize to anyone who may have been offended by his comments and ask that you do not consider them reflective of the views of Bruin Democrats.
