Letter

If you think our student section is loud... In regards to your men’s basketball article by AJ Cadman (“UCLA prevails in close game with Gauchos,” Nov. 30) about the UCSB game and its idea of a “boisterous student section,” I suggest you take a trip to UCSB’s Thunderdome and see what a real student section sounds like. Your student section is a joke. UCSB will be on ESPN in January playing Long Beach State. Why don’t you come up to the game or watch it on TV? Then you will hear and feel what a “boisterous” crowd sounds like. It’s too bad that UCLA won’t come up to play us at the T-dome. Last year, the Stanford coach was quoted as saying, “This is one of the craziest college atmospheres we have played in,” after the Cardinals barely beat UCSB in Santa Barbara. All in all, we are very proud of our Gauchos, who played most of the game with three freshmen and two sophomores. As your article correctly noted, UCSB was undermined and UCLA was lucky our main player, 6-foot-9 Adama Neyei, was out. Good luck the rest of the season and next time we will get you. As our small yet loud fans yelled last night ... “over-rated... over rated.”
