DiTullio gives 4-over par first round effort

UCLA senior golfer Brandon DiTullio, who is competing as an individual in the NCAA Men’s Golf Championships at Grand National Lake Course in Opelika, Ala., shot a 4-over par 76 Wednesday morning in the first round of the championships. The Bruins as a team did not qualify, and DiTullio is UCLA’s lone entry.

“It was a frustrating first round today,” he said in a statement. “I didn’t hit it as well as I have been hitting it.”

“It was kind of funny because I had a great warm-up session right before I teed off,” he added.

He pointed out that other golfers are not performing to the best of their abilities, either.

“The scores are not that low. As of right now about half the scores are in and they are a little higher than I thought they’d be,” he said.

At the end of round one David Gossett from Texas led the field with a 9-under par 63.

DiTullio tees off at 1:50 p.m. today for the second round of the championships, and he is optimistic.

“The mind-set for (today) is just to go out and stick with what got me here,” he said.
