Plays, musicals and concerts evoke the spirit of the holidays, providing entertainment and cheer for all

  AMERICAN BALLET THEATRE Yan Chen stars in the holiday classic "The Nutcracker" at the Kodak Theatre. The American Ballet Theatre brings the beloved Christmas ballet “The Nutcracker” to the new Kodak Theatre at the Hollywood & Highland complex. The famous Tchaikovsky score will be played by the Hollywood Bowl Orchestra. The ballet runs from Dec. 14 through Dec. 23. Tickets are $30 to $80 and are available at the box office at 6801 Hollywood Blvd. or through Ticketmaster at (213) 365-3500.   GREENWAY COURT THEATRE Charlie Brown and Lucy star in the stage production of "Charlie Brown's Christmas" at the Greenway Court Threatre. Charlie Brown, famous commercials and the American family in time of war are all meshed together in the unusual “A Charlie Brown Commercial Christmas,” running through Dec. 30. Telling the story of a family living in 1969 with a son fighting in Vietnam, the play blends television with reality to examine world and family issues. Tickets are $12 to $18 and can be purchased at (323) 655-4402. Performances will be held at the Greenway Court Theatre at 544 N. Fairfax Ave. in Los Angeles.   Patrick Stewart will be starring in a one-man performance of Charles Dickens’ classic “A Christmas Carol” on Saturday, Dec. 15, and Sunday, Dec. 16. With just a few props, Stewart will portray every character from the holiday tale at the Luckman Fine Arts Complex at Cal State L.A. Prices are $35 to $45, and are half price for children aged 6-12.

A Noise Within will be presenting “A Wilde Holiday,” a collection of fairy tales by Oscar Wilde. Running Dec. 14-16 at the Masonic Temple in Glendale, the tales that will be shown are “The Selfless Giant,” “The Happy Prince” and “The Star Child.” Combined with the performance will be poetry by Lewis Carroll, May Sarton, and other noted writers. Tickets cost $22 through $38 and can be purchased at A Noise Within’s box office at (818) 240-0910. A Noise Within is located at 234 S. Brand Blvd. in Glendale.

“Holiday Lights,” a concert by the Gay Men’s Chorus of Los Angeles, will feature traditional carols from America and around the world, as well as more modern songs. “Forever Plaid,” the heartwarming musical that has been performed across the country for the past decade, is being reincarnated as “Forever Plaid – A New Holiday Edition” at the Pasadena Playhouse. The show will feature old and new Christmas songs, as well as the same four characters seen in the original show.
